Just to clarify, you mean you're double-clicking the clip and it doesn't appear in the Viewer?

The videos appeared in the top half of the file and transfer window. When I drag the video to the bottom box to be queued it will be added to the queue. When I click on it a a red circle with a ! appears in the status block that reads ERROR: NO DATA when I click on it

Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Afraid I can't help with this behavior in this version. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Hi Jim.  I think we are using the same FCE function, but maybe not.  I am now running FCE 4.01 (not "pro") under Snow Leopard (OS 6.8).  This was as far as I could upgrade my 2007 MBP that originally came with Tiger (OS 4.11) and run Final Cut Express reliably.  After putting off the upgrade for 6 years, I decided I needed FCE 4.01 for its Log and Transfer (not "File and Transfer") function so that I could use an AVCHD card-based videocam.  (The tape-based HD system required capture of the entire tape cassette with one push of a button, no opportunity to select anything at the capture level.)

If we are indeed talking about the same thing, let me say that I have found the "Log and Transfer" window a pretty clunky add-on to the basically very good FCE 3.5 that I bought in 2007, just before Apple's upgrade to 4.01.  It does work for me, but it's jumpy and I have to treat it with kid gloves.  I  basically work with one clip at a time, don't try to pile up a long queue. If asked to do too many things at once, It can crash, losing everything accumulated since the previous save, so I "save project" frequently. Backtracking to see where the project was interrupted by a crash should also include carefully removing the extra file you will have on your scratch drive - to save scratch drive space.

But your question was not about crashes, you described a red error icon with an exclamation point and "No Data" for clarification.  This has happened to me occasionally, usually responded to removing the offending clip (right click on it will give you that choice) and capturing other clips for awhile, then coming back & trying again.  Once, when the red exclamation point persisted with several different clips, it turned out that my scratch drive assignment was incorrectly made and so the dumb software had no scratch drive to use.  Rebooting the Mac, closing and restarting FCE, are the usual things that might help.  Have you tried searching the Forum database?

What you are running under OS 10.5.8 may be very different from what I eventually upgraded to in 2013; it would be one of the earliest versions of FCE 4.0.  In that event, what I have shared with you may be only marginally relevant. There are probably still people on these Forums who could help you (Tom Wolsky, for instance, had enormous experience with FCE 3.5 & I guess 4.0, but he is certainly working with much newer systems now.)  It might be worth trying to find him.

Good luck!  Do post what you come up with, I'm sure it can be fixed and may be very simple.

Are you still on OS 10.5.8 using a G5 Mac?
