Q: I cant reply to an apple email

I Own a mac mini, late 2012, 2.5 ghz i5 w 16 gb memory running OS X El Capitan v 10.11.5

on my mac mini i cannot reply to an apple email. When I hit reply, reply all, or forward an email window opens but without an address line, subject, or body copy. And I cannot delete the "blank" reply window. When I close the mail app and then shut down my computer all rthe open blank reply windows are visible when I click window in the header bar. My same mail account works fine on my ipad 3 and iphone 5s. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Remove all third party apps that claim to protect, manage, boost performance, etc. Trusteer would be an example of one such app that should be removed.

Please remove "Rapport," also known as "Trusteer Endpoint Protection," by following the instructions on this page.

Back up all data before making any changes.

Thank you but I do not believe that I have rapport/trusteer sw on my computer. I checked by doing a search "on my mac" and checked my applications folder for any apparent third party sw. None came to my attention. This problem started shortly after my 5/31 el captian update.

Try launching Mail with the shift key down, that reset the mail app.. Also for the missing headers, while mail is open, go to View at the top left and click on either "show toolbar" or Customize toolbar" and add the Fields back to your response window.. You can ultimately solve all your problems by going to ~/Library/Containers and remove the "com.apple.mail" folder that will reset your mail application to defaults so you may have to set them up again

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
