working with large and complicated files in iCloud Drive.

Has anyone one used iCloud Drive with large and memory intensive files such as those which are used with AutoCad (for thr Mac) or ArchiCad? Can you work directly out of those files on the iCloud Drive or does one have to save them off and then put them back on the iCloud Drive when you are down working with them? Also is there a big drop in performance working this way? I have tried worki out of Dropbox in this way but have found that it frequently crashes or freezes up other application making it an unpredictable and challenging way to work.
