Q: Issues with syncing iPhone 6s Plus with itunes

Neither my iPhone 6s Plus or my previous iPhone 5C will connect to my iTunes. I get an error message saying that it cannot connect because I need to do a software update. However, when I go to iTunes > check for updates < and the scan is done, it says that I have the current version. I have uninstalled iTunes completely off of my computer, restarted my computer and reinstalled and nothing changed. I am operating on a Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I am not sure how to fix this error. It has been going on for 3 weeks now and nothing I've tried has worked. Please help!

    Hello Amelynda629!

I'd definitely want to be able to sync my devices with iTunes.  There's plenty of content I have only in iTunes on my computer.  We can check things out.

Since you mentioned having Mac OS X 10.6.8, that is going to be the reason you're seeing the message to update iTunes.  OS X 10.8.5 or newer is needed for the latest version of iTunes, 12.4.1, iTunes - Download iTunes Now - Apple

To get that you can see if your Mac is able to freely upgrade to El Capitan, the latest version of OS X: Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

Or if your Mac meets requirements, you could purchase a Mountain Lion, the minimum version needed, download code from Apple.com: OS X Mountain Lion - Apple

    Hope this helps. Regards.

Thank you for replying! It might sounds silly but how do I know if I can upgrade freely? I see the download in the app store but I don't want it to go ahead and download if it is going to wipe my computer. Do I need a separate drive to back up or could my computer be backed up in the cloud?

    Thank you,
