Do I need to be online to move a rented movie from MacBook to iPad?

I am going to be on a 10hour flight this weekend. I was planning on renting some movies to watch while in the air. From what I understand, if I rent them and download before the flight I can play them with no internet connection. I don't think that my MacBook Battery will last the whole flight, so I would like the ability to transfer the movie rental to my iPad if my battery gets low. Is this a possibility? Do I need to be connected to the internet to transfer it from my laptop to my iPad?

Howdy jewlz68,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I see you have questions about renting on a Mac and transferring the movie to your iPad. Check out the information below to learn more about how this can be accomplished:

If you rented the movie on your computer, but want to watch it on an iOS device, connect the devices and sync using USB. When you move a rented movie from your computer, it will disappear from your computer’s iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as often as you want, but you can only have it on one device at a time.

Have a good one.
