Q: Having issues with recording FaceTime audio on Garageband

Hi:

I have an online class this Friday that I'm taking through FaceTime, and need to record the audio (on Garageband) for the session, but having an issue with the person on the other end of the call's audio not recording (or barely being picked up) in Garageband.

Equipment used: Snowball Ice USB Condenser Microphone, Macbook Pro, running Yosemite, Version 10.10.5

The USB mic is plugged directly into my MAC, and the headphones are in the jack.

I definitely get volume in my headphones and it records my levels fine, but when I had my friend call me on FaceTime  (he was on his iPhone, with the volume turned all the way up) to test it out, I could hear him in my headphones fine, BUT his audio levels were extremely faint and it was barely registering when I recorded a trial run on Garageband. Again, I dont know if the mic was just picking him up in the other room, but his audio sounded like an extremely faint whisper during playback.

I feel it has to be a settings issue, but I've tried pretty much every combo and I am at a loss.

Here are the steps I took:

MY MAC:

I went into my Mac's SYSTEM PREFERENCES-SOUND, and changed the OutPut to "Headphones-Headphones Port" and the Input to "Blue Snowball-USB"  The Input and Output Volumes were both turned up, and I definitely got a level on the input when speaking.

GARAGEBAND:

In Garageband, I went into PREFERENCES-AUDIO/MIDI and changed the Audio Output to "Built-In Output" and the Audio Input to "Blue Snowball."  I then went to the  "Real Instrument" panel, and for INPUT SOURCE, I selected "Mono 1 (Blue Snowball), for Monitor, I had it "On" and the Recording Level was all the way up.

And still nothing.

Any ideas would be so very much appreciated!

Thank you again!

best!
