Q: Music Memos Crashes: How do I retrive my Music Memos?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1 Music Memos, unknown version: won't run, doesn't show up in list of installed apps.

Recorded a song on Music Memos, worked pretty good, exported it to Garage Band, fine.

Recorded about three hours of music in 8 separate recordings, was able to export one, then Music Memos started crashing. Crashes a couple seconds after I tap anything.

Music Memos doesn't show up in the installed apps list. iCloud on the PC shows it using 3.2 GB of space but I can't access any of the files, only delete.

Is there any other way I can access this data to export it?

    Hello Russell,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I know it's important for your apps to work reliably, so I'm happy to provide you with some direction to recover your information from Music Memos.

If you have a recent backup, you can restore that to get your data back up to the date of the backup:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

You can also troubleshoot the app crashing by following the steps outlined here:

If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

Have a great rest of your day!

One way you can attempt that would not involve the restore of a backup would be to walk through this next article, About File Sharing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support, to pull the music files out of the Music Memos app through iTunes under the App section when looking through sync options for your iPhone.

    • Plug in your iOS device to your computer using a USB cable.
    • Launch iTunes on your computer.
    • Select your device in iTunes. Get help if you can't find it.
    • Click Apps in the list on the left and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
    • In this section, you'll see a list of file-sharing apps on your device. Select an app to see the files available for sharing in that app on your device. If you don't see the file-sharing section, your device has no file-sharing apps.

(You will find the File Sharing options if you scroll down in the Apps Window of iTunes when your device is selected)

OK, I see it now (I didn't realize there are 'nested' scroll bars in iTunes, a total of three at this point, the right-most is the one I need to scroll down that far).

Music Memos shows the one track that I exported twice (two different file types) and an "Ideas" folder that I can't open, nothing else.

None of the Music Memos files are shown.

I have tried all the app crashing suggestions in the first reply except delete and reinstall the app, I am afraid I will lose all my data. I have not tried to restore from iTunes recently, the data is there on my phone, I just can't get to it.

One more then...do you have iCloud Drive enabled? If so, go to Settings>iCloud>iCloud Drive and enable the view of this as a physical app on your home screen. After having done so, navigate to the iCloud Drive App and in your Music Memos folder, see if your missing files are stored there. If they are, you should have no fear of deleting the app and redownloading it to troubleshoot this matter effectively.

Once the app, Music Memos, is re-installed it will reference your iCloud Drive for these files.

OK, that helped! Got the app running for a minute before it crashed again and was able to listen to part of a song, so they ARE still there! I will pursue this more when I have some time...

    Thanks!

    Back to the drawing board...

I can just get Music Memos started once if I completely uninstall and reinstall. It runs for a few seconds then crashes, unable to export anything. I've done this several times but can't get any farther.

Updated to iOS 9.3.2 in hopes that would fix it, nothing...

Oddly, the files are now showing up in iCloud Drive on my iPhone! and I can play them! But they don't show up in iCloud on my iMac (it is an old 2008 one barely running El Capitan) or the web version. It appears they are Apple CoreAudio Format.

Is there any other software that can access the Music Memos files on my iMac? I've really got to get these edited!

I have now found I can paste the .caf tracks into a note which is synced via iCloud. I have been waiting for Notes on my iMac to update for an hour but it may take a while as the total file size is 2.5 GB. Once they are in notes on my iMac, I SHOULD be able to import them into iTunes from what I have read.

Anyone have any experience with this? Will this actually work?

Unfortunately, the tracks imported into Notes show up properly on my iPhone but on the iMac it shows only the first track and that is 0 seconds long, so something is not working.

Anyone have any idea why? Is it because my iMac is old? I am running El Cap so it seems it SHOULD work.

I have no access to these tracks besides on my iPhone, is there any way to move these?
