Problems with DRM
HI,
I use my MacBook Pro for playing music in between sets of live music that my band play at regular gigs. We sometimes play weddings and other functions and, when we do, the incedental music becomes a full on disco.
I had been using a 2010 MacBook Pro but this has become slow and I now use a 2014 i7 macbook Pro. On the 2010 mbp I've got around 7 days of music that I either ripped from cd's that I own or I bought from Amazon music.
Now that I have subscribed to Apple Music I thought that the process of transferring the music over to the newer MBP would simply be a case of switching on iCloud music and downloading the playlists that I have on the first MBP.
This seemed to work fine - everything downloaded ok and also appeared in the library of the 3rd party app that I use for playing the music (DJay)........except, when I got the venue, I opened up the 3rd party app (which uses the local iTunes library), I got an error message saying that the songs were DRM protected and not authorised for use on the computer!
I was then prompted to log into my apple account to authorise the songs but the prompt was showing an old email address and it wouldn't let me change it.
This was a huge problem as the event was for a female 21st birthday party with lots of pink balloons - my only backup was the incedental music that I keep on an iPad - but this was Led Zep and Doobie Brothers type stuff!
eventually I noticed that I could play the music from iTunes without it prompting for a login (presumably because the music is coming from Apple Music?) - so I ended up using that.
This was far from ideal though - and judging from the song artwork - I'm playing Apple's stored version of the songs rather than the version that I originally bought so I've got no guarantee that the tracks will be the same until I play them.
ideally id like to get my original purchased files back and onto an external hardrive and run the disco from that - how do I get my files back?
