Ipod Classic not recognizing Itunes library after 12.4.1.6 update

After (sigh, unwittingly and unwillingly) updating my Macbook Pro Itunes to 12.4.1.6, my Ipod Classic is acting like it doesn't recognize that the Macbook's Itunes is the parent library. I've made some additions to the Macbook Itunes' playlists, but my Ipod won't sync..... at least not without wanting to erase all current (gulp, 157gb's of data) and reimport the entire library again. Is there a way around this? I haven't had this issue- at least I don't remember having it- with prior Itunes updates, where the Ipod no longer recognizes the Macbook's Itunes as its home library. I've run a "verify disk" on both the Macbook and the Ipod, and they're both clean, no signs of corruption. FWIW, I'm running the laptop on Mavericks, OSX 10.9.5.

As long as the media that you want on the classic is in your library and can be easily reselected then it is time consuming to reload, but not too much hassle. See Recover media from an iPod if there is media on the device that isn't in your library.

This exact same scenario has just confronted me after updating iTunes to 12.6.2.20...

It believes my ipod classic to be a new device and won't sync without wiping it first. Curiously, my ipod shuffle and iphone (3GS) are both fine.

Did you have to add your media back to the library after the update? See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Thanks for the reply.

No, not this time (that was last summer!). I got lucky this time- the update went without a hitch, no deleted or changed playlists etc- only my Ipod doesn't recognize its home library.

Hmm, I wonder if it isn't worth going through the motions anyway. If it makes no difference you can swap the library files around again. Is there anything on the device that isn't in your library? If so see Recover media from an iPod first. Then I think you'll have to bite the bullet and leave it syncing up overnight.

Nope, nothing on the Ipod that's not on the laptop.... so yep, will need to do an entire reload I guess. : ( Could be worse, tho! Mostly I was just curious if others had encountered this issue with the latest update. I've gotten to really despise Itunes updates...... ; )

I've certainly seen the odd discussion about seemingly unnecessary erase and sync messages, but not enough to work out any pattern or mark it out as a common problem. You haven't used someone else's computer to charge the device recently have you?

Nope, my Ipod has only ever been plugged into this one laptop. But I've had 2 entire playlist deletions on Itunes updates before (and yes, learned after the first to keep my backup library doc current....), so this issue feels minor by comparison. Perhaps I'm increasing everyone else's odds of having problem-free Itunes updates.....
