Portable receipt Scanner

Does anyone know of a good portable receitp scanner that is compatible with mac OS. I have already checked into Neatreceipt but is not comptible according to their support. Any others out their?

I am getting my Husband the new macbook for xmas surprise. he has been loyal PC user for years. I am trying to set the macbook up so it is a nobrainer for him and he enjoys the experience right out of the box. He really wants a portable receipt scanner for xmas. I hope there is one out there, as this would difintely not help my cause of convincing him that mac is the way to go if there is not one made for mac.

Macbook pro core 2duo, 2 macbooks core 2 duos, Mac OS X (10.4.4), macbooks are xmas presents for son and husband

Well there is software to export the scans to Excel but it doesn't look like it's Mac compatible.

Sometimes you can use Image Capture as a adjunct to scanners that aren't Mac compatible but again the resulting format might not be what you want.

Of course if this is really important to you and it's also important to have a Mac you could always go with the Neat Receipt and use your MacBook with either Parallels or BootCamp. To me that seems like a lot of work (and $) just to run a scanner. Sometimes these things can be deal breakers. If that's important to you and you don't want to go through installing Windows on your MacBook it might just be easier to buy him a Windows laptop and be done with it.

This doesn't exactly fit the "portable" requirement, but my inexpensive Canon LiDE 35 scanner's software includes a PDF scanning option that also recognizes most of the text in the scan and makes it searchable. I use this when I scan important receipts. With searchable PDF scans + Spotlight, I can usually find any receipt I need.

Perhaps instead of looking specifically for a "receipt scanner," you may want to look for a scanner of the appropriate size that includes software of this kind.

There seems to be a shareware application for Macs called "ReceiptWallet" that would cover the software side of this question, so I would think any scanner that fit the portability requirement would be fine. (Since "portable" isn't necessarily the same for everyone.)

I, too, have Neatreceipts & love the idea of what it does. (or rather of what it is capable of) I have been trying to get it to run under Virtual PC on my G5 iMac, but have been having issues. It scans fine, but the software end of it doesn't display the receipt after analyzing the data. And it's slower than molasses in January. Very frustrating. I'm thinking it's the VPC part that makes it so slow. Redraws are agonizingly slow. I'm looking at buying a Macbook....and would love to hear anyones' experiences running Neatreceipts/Scanalizer on Bootcamp and/or Parallels. Compatability & speed?

Neatreceipts say they are working on a Mac version...but they have been saying that for a year....
