Uh...don't think so, mate.

People who buy technology want it to last forever because it's not cheap.

Except technology constantly changes and improves each and every year.

The rate that technology changes for mobile electronics is even faster. Usually, less than a year!

You can't expect 4 year mobile hardware to support a brand new, 4 years later mobile operating system that is designed to, more or less support the latest mobile devices and slightly older, but still more advanced mobile devices that are less than 4 or 5 years old.

Oh, iOS 10 may run on 4 year old hardware, but I betcha you won't like the way it would run on your 4 year old iPod Touch 5.

It will run slow and erractic and you'll be complaining here about how slow and erratic your iPod Touch 5 is running and when we tell you there isn't much you can do to change that condition, you'll be moaning, whining and complaining about that answer!

Technology companies don't want to spend the efforts needed to keep maintaining older, legacy devices forever or for 10 years, or more.

Besides, your 4 year old iPod Touch would only get bare bones basic iOS 10 features only.

NONE of the cool and new stuff that Apple touts about major iOS feature set elements.

How would that help your iPod Touch 5.

If iOS 10 could run on your iPod Touch 5, it would get basic, barebones iOS 10 features that would NOT run on your device very well, at all!

Your iPod Touch 5th has gotten 4 years of upgrades and updates and will still work like it always has and you should get, at least, another year of reliable operation from it!

You want to argue about planned obsolescence, the original iPad only got one year of upgrade/updates before its iOS life ended, abruptly at iOS 5.1.1.

Your iPod Touch 5 has been upgraded and updated for over 4 plus years!

Your short rant post is irrelevant.

If you don't like the speed at which mobile technology advances, then stop purchasing mobile technology!

That'll solve all of your problems and issues with mobile devices.

Good Luck to you and your future mobile computing life!

😉

Oy, blimey 'ol chap. Your really, really long post is highly relevant defense of planned obsolescence of which I pointed out is taking place by this particular manufacturer. Thanks for agreeing with me, 😊 and fortifying me point mate. 😎

Good of luck to you on your quest for 15,000 points my Level 6 mate, and Happy Chanukah.

No exactly, because the fith generation cannot get the latest update(ios 10) She should be fine though until the end of 2017 where most apps will stop supporting ios 9 (the software the fith generation is currently running). After they stop supporting ios 9 most apps will be of no use because they will not work meaning you will forcefully have to buy a new device that will run on ios 10.

Not true.

What ever the last updated app is left on your iDevices, they will still continue to work.

I have an original iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1 and all of the compatible apps (over 60) on that 6 year old iPad all still work.

Even the older Videos app, my older Netflix and Hulu apps, also still work on my 2010 iPad 1.

Heck all of the apps I still have on my 2nd gen iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1 all still work (also older versions of Netflix and Hulu) and THAT iDevice is over 8 years old.

So, you are incorrect. Whatever apps that will not update any longer to your iDevices will still function without issues for many years to come.
