You aren't addressing anyone from Apple here.

This is a user to user technical support community.

We are all users, like you.

The iPod Touch 5th gen is a 5 year old devices with 5 year old hardware.

iOS 10 would run very poorly on a 5 year old iDevice.

You NEED iOS 10, purchase a new iPod Touch 6th generation.

Apple has provided two easy choices, now. A iPod Touch 6 in 32 or 128 GBs storage sizes.

Good Luck to You.

If your iPod Touch 5th gen is slow now, it would only get slower with iOS 10, NOT faster.

This is a moot posting by you as Apple is soon to retire/obsolete your iPod Touch 5 as it is only a 32 bit hardware architecture device.

32 bit devices will no longer be supported with the up and coming iOS 11.

You can hope and pray all you want, iOS 10 is NEVER coming to the iPod Touch 5, ever!

Your iPod Touch 5 days are numbered and are quickly counting down to the end of its support cycle, by Apple.

You want/need iOS 10 and continued iOS support, you need to purchase a 6th gen iPod Touch.

The 6th gen iPod Touch is head and shoulders sooo much better than the 5 year old iPod Touch 5.

For the first time Apple made the 6th gen iPod Touch so much closer, in specs, to an actual iPhone 6, without the phone part.

Purchase a new iPod Touch 6th generation.

Good Luck!

Wow that's dumb because the iPhone 4 came out in 2010. And the iPod 5 came out in 2012 that's two years and the iPod can't update to iOS 10 why not everyone in the world has money like they do I thinks it ******** that you have to pay over $1000 to get the iPhone 7 Plus who does that that's so much money no I was good with that instead of buying a iPhone 7 plus. You can go out and do stuff with ur kids and go places instead of buying the iPhone 7 plus for over 1,000$ 🙄😡😡

Uh,

This post is about iPod Touches, NOT iPhones.

An iPhone 4 is 7 years old and, DEFINITELY, can't upgrade to iOS 10 anymore than a 4th gen iPod Touch or 1st gen, 2010 iPad can't, either!

An the iPod Touch 5th gen IS a 5 year old iDevice, soon to be 6 years old!

The current 6th gen iPod Touch is a WHOLE LOT cheaper than an iPhone.

Current iPod Touch 6th gen is $199 for a 32 GBs storage model and $299 for an 128 GBs storage model.

Far cry from $1000.

Do you know what you're talking about?

Yeah,

You should be.

The device isn't going to suddenly stop functioning just because you can no longer upgrade its OS.

The hardware is 4-5 years behind to current 6th gen iPod Touch which, btw, has come the absolute closest, in specs and hardware, to an actual iPhone (without the phone) than any other previous iPod Touch model ever did! EVER!

The hardware is as old as the iPad 2, 3 and 1st gen iPad Mini that are also incompatible with the new iOS 10 for the very same reasons.

Besides the 5th gen iPod Touch will still receive app update for one more year or so.

Most app developers design their apps with a minimum iOS version.

Some apps go all the way back to iOS 4 or 5 and many still have iOS 7 or later as a minimum iOS requirement.

So, your daughter's 5th gen iPod Touch will still get iOS app updates for quite some time.

Any new apps that are designed, from the ground up, to use iOS 10 as an initial iOS, will be the ones that won't be able to use or run on your daughter's 5th gen iPod Touch.

Any apps that are currently on her iPod Touch will continue to update and her iPod Touch will still work and function, just like on the day you purchased it for her.

So, you should still be happy.

Your daughter's iPod Touch should still do what it will do for another two more years, or so.

In the mobile technology space, technology will always move forward and more quickly and will leave older technology hardware behind after only a short span of years.

You will never be happy with technology if you don't embrace this eventuality.

I am still using an original 32 GB iPad from 2010, a 64GB iPad 2 and 3 models, myself, in addition to a new 128 GB iPad Pro and 64 GB,6th Gen iPod Touch that I purchased last year to replace my seriously aged 2008, 8GB 2nd gen iPod Touch that I used dilligently for 8 years!

Be Happy & Good Luck to you!
