I can't seem to find a way to get my mac to auto correct the letter "i" to a capital, which is how I like my "i's" to be most of the time. Now that I read that back, maybe thats not what I want, but when I used my pc it would automatically make a small i into a big i, when it was on its own.
how do I do this with my mac please.
Some apps and websites might override OS X's autocorrect feature. Try opening TextEdit from the Applications folder, typing some "i's" and see if they change to "I."
When using the built in text replacement, the original text must contain at least two characters. I am not sure if a service like text expander would allow you to do what you want.
Keyboard preferences/text will only allow 2 or more characters. I tried it already.
Did you try typing in TextEdit as a test, as I suggested?
so I opened text edit, it came up with an option to open new document, I typed some i's into this, and they didnt' correct. sorry but don't understand the relevance of this exercise? I don't know what this is.

OS X doesn't autocorrect i. Only iOS does this.

OS X doesn't do this. Some apps, like Pages 4, have a setting for it. Otherwise you need to add a 3rd party app like WordService or TextExpander.
FWIW, TypeIt4Me will do what you want and is cheaper than TextExpander.
thanks Tom, do you know if pages 5.6.2 can do this. I've looked at both format and document and cant see where this might be hiding.
No, only Pages 4.

According to a review in Ars Technica, 10.12 Sierra has a capitalization autocorrect option.
