Why can't I open my backup files on my PC?

Hi! I recently did a backup of my phone using iTunes but whenever I browse these files they're all a strange format that my computer doesn't recognize, so my question is how can I backup my files while being able to open them on my PC

iPhone 4, Windows 8

There's no official way to open iPhone back up file. The only way you can 'use' it is to restore it to your phone via iTunes.

There are some 3rd party applications claiming to be able to open iTunes backups but I don't recommend using them, as messing with back up itself, may cause it to be unusable when you need it. But if you really have to do it just google "open iPhone backup file" and I'm sure you will find something.

But again, don't do it. 😉
