How do I get AirDrop to work from my iPhone 6s to MacBook?

Whenever I want to share images from my iPhone 6s to my MacBook 13'' late 2012 or newer MacBooks using AirDrop, it barely works, like 1 out of 50 times.

I turn on AirDrop on my phone and allow everyone to share with me. On my MacBook I go to AirDrop in Finder, and usually my phone pops up on my Mac for a couple of seconds and then sometimes disappears, sometimes it stays.

On my phone I select some photos and press share, but my Mac rarely shows up in the AirDrop section. On the rare occasion where it actually shows, I can transfer the photos just fine, it is just that it rarely rarely does.

The big question, how do I get AirDrop to work consistently?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.2
