Apple TV 4 responds to wrong remote

Hi all!

I have a mac mini and an apple TV (4) connected to my TV. The mini has a white apple remote paired to it. The Apple TV is paired with the siri remote.

When I use the white remote for my mini to do stuff on the mini, the Apple TV also responds resulting in apps getting started and so on.

I've read about putting a sticker on the IR receiver of the ATV but is there no good solution, worthy of Apple 🙂

Thanks for your time!

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

The Apple TV 4 pairing with it's remote is bluetooth not IR. It isn't about pairing as such but rather instructing your Apple TV 4 to ignore instructions from your older remote.

  1. Take the unpaired remote (press menu and rewind for 6 seconds while pointing at the other device to unpair if necessary).
  2. Make sure the old remote can't control the other device (turn it round, cover it up or turn it off).
  3. Hold it close to the Apple TV 4 and press the menu and rewind buttons for at least 6 seconds (you won't see anything happen while you do this)
  4. Then, hold menu and select (centre button) until the light on the Apple TV 4 flashes.
