Q: El Capitan: iMac monitor issue

Ever since I upgraded I have been having constant issues with the system hanging and then when I reboot I get

the grey screen with stationary squares on the screen. i then have to reboot again and again....

I found a way to get into OSx which is to load my original (2010) Installation DVD! I still get constant scrolling

when using Chrome, but not using safari. Another 'glitvh' is that beside my cursor I have a square made up

of 8 parallel lines!

I'd really like to go BACK to previous OSx as I don't get any value from El capitan for my basic use.

Anyone come across similar issues? I'm wondering if the failure to boot correctly could be a monitor issue

or perhaps even a corrupted boot prom?

Thanks

iMac dual core, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

    Hello terryoc,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. I understand that you've been experiencing startup issues and would like to revert back to a previous version of OS X. I can definitely understand your concern especially since your have to reboot again and again. I want to get this resolved with you.

Before troubleshooting this issue I recommend that you back up your content. Use this link for backup options:

In some situations errors can prevent your computer form starting up properly. We need to first address why this is occurring. To do this we'll need to use Disk Utility. Please use the following steps:

    1. Try starting from Recovery. Use the following link for steps and information about OS X Recovery:

OS X: About OS X Recovery

    2. Once in Recovery open Disk Utility select your startup disk.

    3. Choose First Aid

    4. Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your startup disk

If your unable to repair the disk use OS X recovery to reinstall OS X on your Mac. Follow the steps here:

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac

Once you've gotten the startup issue resolved you can definitely go back to a previous OS X version. If you use Time Machine here is a great way to do this:

    Have an amazing day!
