Can I get rid of or hide VIP and Flagged boxes in Mail?

As always, trying to make best use of screen space: can I delete or hide or move the VIP and flagged Mailboxes in Mail? I never use them and they waste screen space. I'd be happy to just force them below the mailboxes that I do want to see....

I had never noticed the VIP before--apparently I somehow clicked one of my own e-mail addresses as a VIP. Removing the designation and restarting did make that go away. The problem with this approach for flagged messages is that I have no control of other people putting flags on things, and their priorities are rarely the same as mine. Unless I can make a rule to delete all flags from incoming messages (hm....maybe I should try that), this box will continue to rise from the dead.

Select all the flagged messages and right click (control-click) on them and choose the x in the Flag section to remove the flags.

Or highlight the flagged messages and from the menu under Messages, choose clear flags.

And I've not seen where incoming messages show flags from what others send. Maybe that's dependent on you mail provider. Are you sure you have no rules set up to flag messages either on your computer or maybe on the server site. Check the webmail site for settings for flagging messages.

You can't set rules for flag criteria to find flagged messages or delete them. You can only set criteria to find priority messages and marked messages as flagged.

If you actually receive flagged messages, then you will have to deal with them manually. I can only assume you are using an exchange account where they are coming from. If so, you can only deal with that at the server and sender level.

Good Luck.

I'm not sure what an exchange account can send. But I don't think people can send messages as flagged. Different providers and applications have different methods of flagging and aren't necessarily compatible between application, providers, or platforms. Flagged should be for your convenience or organizing your messages.

I know people can send in different priorities (low, medium, or high). Maybe that's what is being flagged.

Ask the sender of a flagged message from each different account exactly what they sent you as far as being flagged or prioritized.
