Q: Moving iPhoto/Photos Libraries

Hi,

I am trying to move my iPhoto and Photos libraries to an external hard drive in order to save space on my MacBook Pro's SSD. When I locate to my home folder, then the the Pictures folder, both iPhoto and Photos libraries are there and they say that they have a capacity of around 200 GB each, so about 400 GB in total. When I moved the iPhoto library to the external drive (dragged and dropped holding down the Command key, in order to move NOT copy) it moved the supposedly 200 GB in just around 15 minutes and when I checked my storage in "About this mac" I only gained about 6 GB. Do I need to move any other files or go through any other process in order to actually move the library? I have tried restarting and have booted iPhoto with the menu to choose the library and it still works fine and it says that the entire library is on the the external hard drive, but the capacity doesn't make sense to me. Thanks for your time.
