forgot passcode

I forgot my passcode for my iPad. It's locked and I can't get it started. I've tried a variety of different passcodes I typically use but none work and, after a while, the unit disables itself. I tried backup and restore from iTune on my computer to no avail. It keeps coming back to enter passcode and that's where everything ends. Help.
