Q: No Internet on MacBook Pro but Works in Parallels VM

I have, for a long time, been experiencing intermittent failure of my MacBook Pro (2015) to access Internet resources. This may happen with my Parallels VM running or not running. When Parallels is running, I can access Internet resources in the VM (Windows 7 Pro, bridged mode).

I have no problem connecting to the Wi-Fi (Apple Air Port Time Capsule), but cannot get any Internet resources (no mail, no web browser) I can access other network resources such as a NAS and other computers. This problem has persisted through several OS versions now, and everything is up to date.

Normally, I have to shut everything down, power off the Mac, and start everything back up again. This is time consuming and a real hassle.

I am just wondering if there is a common error involved that might ring a bell with someone, I don't want to waste more time running reports and posting logs and error files.I didn't buy this machine so I could become a computer technician, I would like to use it to actually do my work.

I am so disappointed in this Mac, and the identical one we bought for the other office, I think this is going to be my last Mac. I can't justify paying premium prices for below average performance that requires me to tinker with system logs and CLI's.

    Hey PDAR,

I understand that you are having issues with MacBook Pro not maintaining a connection to the internet. Let's see if we can get that sorted out.

Now I won't ask you for some log files or anything related. But one thing that you can run is Wireless Diagnostics. This is a built in utility to help resolve issues with your Internet connection. Take a look at the first article below to walk you through how to use the app and what to look for.

Use Wireless Diagnostics to help you resolve Wi-Fi issues on your Mac

While you are troubleshooting this, you might also want to use a different Network Location. This would allow you to start fresh with the settings for your Internet connection. This would help rule out a software related issue. To learn more about using network locations, take a look at the next article below.

Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later)

    Take care.

Is this happening only on a specific wireless network, say at your home, but not at work, or is it universal? Parallels uses it's own drivers, while Bootcamp uses it's own set. If you have any unknown devices (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark) in Windows Device Manager under Network adapters, it can explain the issue. Internet access also requires name resolution, which may indicate DNS issues.

You may have to act as eyes/ears for the community to help you further.

The other option is to take the Mac to the nearest Apple Store and have a Genius look at it.
