Q: Why can't I get my music onto Apple Music??

I see this question has been asked in here multiple times however I cannot see that it has been answered.

I have Apple Music, and I have lots of songs on my iPhone 6S via Apple Music.  However there's a fair bit of stuff I have on my MacBook that isn't on Apple Music.  Why can't I put these albums on my iPhone via iTunes like I used to??

All I get when I try and sync is "iCloud Music Library Is On" however if I try and turn that off, it warns me I'll lose every album I have saved in my Apple Music, which is hundreds and hundreds.....and something I don't want to do.

Can somebody please help me?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

You cannot manually sync if you are using Apple Music's iCloud Music Library.

Apple Music works in such a way that if songs from your iTunes Library on your computer cannot be found in the iTunes Store music library, it will upload the unmatched songs so you can still access them though the iCloud Music service.

To do this, iTunes needs to scan your library on your computer, and upload those songs.

Add music from your own collection to your Apple Music library - Apple Support

If you do turn off iCloud Music Library, then whatever is in iTunes on your computer will replace the contents of the Music App on your iPhone. which is why it warns you.

Your iPhone, and Your iTunes Music Library on your computer should contain the same items. The iPhone can also contain a subset of items from your iTunes Library, but the main thing is everything on your iPhone's Music App must already exist on your computer to avoid deletion of things on the iPhone.

    Hey Phil,

Thanks for the reply!  I'll have a read over that link.

I have just gone into Apple Music on my MacBook and it asked me to merge music, that sounded like a good thing to do so I clicked it.

Is that gonna put my tracks from my iTunes into my Apple Music app??  Please say yes! haha

Yes. Merging will add whatever is in iTunes on your computer to Apple Music's iCloud Music Library.

It should then all be available from the iPhone

Is it because my music is on a time capsule?

It may take a while for all music to be uploaded to the iCloud Music service and become playable.
