Apple Update Software with Windows 7 will ONLY run ver 2.1.4 if you Update to ver 2.2 it will NOT work uninstall Apple Update Software 2.2 and then install QuickTime Player 7 ONLY update to Apple Update Software ver 2.1.4

DO NOT update to the BAD Apple Update Software ver 2.2

or you will get the message

"The Apple Software Update Server could not be found. Check your internet settings and try again."

Works fine here. Do you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet? It seems ASU 2.2 doesn't always play so well in that case. See also this post: Re: Apple Software Update - "Server could not be found"
