Q: MacBook Pro 15" model A1286 will not recognize the battery or go into sleep mode when the screen is shut.

Jun 23, 2016 6:32 PMby Bell1996,its an apple brand battery that hadnt been used very much, when I click on the battery it just says no battery available so I am unable to check cycles or the condition of the battery through the Mac, with that in mind it makes me think that the battery sensor is shot because it will not show anything, its acting as if there is no battery installed

Since you said "its an apple brand battery that hadnt been used very much" it is likely the battery is dead. Batteries dies because of both use and age. Not using a battery is bad for a battery
