Cannot sign out of of icloud because it is linked to an old apple ID that is not in operation. Can someone offer some advice thanks.

Unfortunately my apple ID is my old email which is now defunct so forgot password will not work because the link will be sent to my old email which does not exist anymore. But thanks for your help.
When you click on the forgot password link, you are asked to answer your Security Questions in order to change the password.
If you forgot your Security Questions, then if you have a Rescue email address (which is not the Apple ID email address), it would send it there. If you do not have a Rescue email address, or if you cannot access the email that your Rescue email address is using, you need to contact Apple Support to get a reset link:
