Q: how to create a install/boot to USB

I want to replace my Hard Drive with a SSD drive, so I believe I can do it by connecting via a USB, and download the OS from the APP store and install it on the SSD drive, then change the drives over ! Is that correct

download first el capitan at app store then get a 8gig usb then download diskmaker x and use it to make a bootable el capitan!  on'ce your done shutdown your computer then open your computer then disconnect first your battery then change now your hard disk then put back the battery and close! then power your mac then press alt and boot it with your usb then follow the instruction you'll be done in 45mins to 1hr

Thanks for your advice, I did what you suggested, slight variation though.

I wanted to change the Hard drive on a desktop, not a laptop.

So I followed your instructions as far as downloading the OS, then I installed it to my new SSD drive via the USB connection (adaptor).

The system has a clean install on the SSD. I have to wait for a new part from OWC, then I can swop the drives over, and hopefully the job will be complete.

    Looks good at the moment.

    Thanks for your advice
