Q: Migrating using non-Time Machine backup

My little home office uses two computers:

1: iMac, 2.9 GHz core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, MacOS 10.10

2: iMac G4 (2003-vintage), 2 GB RAM, 300 GB HDD, MacOS 10.4.11 w/ 9.2.2 in "classic mode"

I have been using the G4 as a file server for several years, and also to run (very) old software no longer in production.

Because the G4 iMac runs a vintage of the MacOS that predates Time Machine, I use LaCie's SilverKeeper to backup its hard drive.

I cannot eliminate the G4 iMac entirely... yet... but I am moving to slowly phase it out. I want to migrate most of the G4 iMac's data over to the newer Core i5 iMac. Problem: when I opened the G4's backup data on the external hard drive on the Core i5 iMac, major folders appeared locked.

How do I facilitate the migration so that there are no access problems?

Is this a question better suited for the MacOS 10.4.11 "Tiger" forums?

Thanks in advance,
