itunes can't find my music
When I turn iTunes on and try to play a song from my library I get a message "cannot locate song"

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important being able to play your songs in iTunes on your computer is to you!
Based on what you stated, it seems you may be having issues with the physical file of the song is not where iTunes thinks it should be. Good news is there is this article on this exact situation:
