Q: iTunes match libraries - copy lossless tracks over local lan

Hi

I've got a mac mini server with my iTunes library on it - matched. My CDs are ripped lossless.

I also have a laptop with a matched iTunes library. The tracks on the laptop aren't downloaded yet so appear as "in the cloud"

Is there a way to import from the master mac mini over the LAN to the laptop matched library WITHOUT the tracks being seen as new? When I select the mac mini library using home sharing on the laptop and then import tracks they come in a second copy which Match then tries to upload to the cloud from the laptop. So basically I end up with two tracks. I'd rather be able to populate the laptop with tracks over the lan to avoid downloading 30k tracks, and also because if I download the matched tracks they just appear as 256k aac tracks, not as lossless.

I'm sure someone else has come across this! But I can't find it discussed anywhere

cheers

M

    Hi,

Do you need to use iTunes Match on your laptop? If not, create a new library that does not have iTunes Match turned on and add your alac music.

The disadvantage would be having different playlists, count and ratings.

Alternatively, you could try copying your entire iTunes library as is to your laptop but you may have issues with new tracks added to your main library. They would appear on your laptop with download icon, so you be getting AAC tracks. If the tracks were cd rips, you could reimport and replace downloaded versions.
