iMac Optical Drive Replacement

Hi

The optical drive on my 2009 27" iMac has started to make a weird noise. As I don't really use it I plan on replacing it with an SSD.

I plan on keeping the main hard drive where it is which already has a thermal sensor attached so will I require a thermal sensor for the new drive?
