Can I have 2 email addresses with iCloud

Can I have 2 "separate" email addresses with iCloud ?

For many years I've been using 2 Verizon POP accounts. I'm now looking at switching to a provider that I can use with the Mac Apple Mail program that would be IMAP.

I have read about setting up iCloud alias email accounts. But I have read that when an email is sent to the alias email account, it is passed on to the primary email iCloud account. This would do me no good. I want to have 2 email addresses with 2 inboxes and 2 Sent boxes, (as I now have with Verizon).

Thanks!

Yes, you can set up as many iCloud (or other types of) email accounts as you wish. When you open the Mail app on the Mac, click on Accounts under Mail in the top menu bar.

Then click on the iCloud in the pop-up box, and you will see the following:

User uploaded file

Click on the "Create Apple ID" option and then set up a new iCloud.com email address.

You can then view your primary email address and your secondary email address in your mailbox separately:

User uploaded file

Now in my Email App:

User uploaded file

You can see that each of my mailboxes has two entries. One for iCloud (which is my primary iCloud account email) and one for my second iCloud address. The mail for each of them is kept separate, and I only have to expand the Inbox to display them, then click on the one I want to review the mail on.

Cheers,

GB

Using a rule, you could have the 2 inboxes, but not the 2 outboxes with an alias using iCloud Mail only.

If you will be using the Mail app on a Mac, you could get all of this using Mail's more sophisticated rules. A separate INBOX and SENT box for your iCloud alias. without the need for a separate iCloud email address/account.

Gail's suggestion is simpler.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear this. So if one can set up several iCloud email addresses why does Apple even bother with aliases?

Like many people, I want separate email addresses for business personal etc. Thank you for the detailed instructions.

I currently have a Apple account, that I use for iTunes, iPhone apps and Mac apps. The email address associated with that Apple account is not a ".icloud" address. I assume this fact doesn't matter when I go ahead and set up my 2 iCloud email addresses?

I guess I'm missing something. It seems like your method is the hard way. Why not just set up 2 email addresses? I don't know what could be simpler.

Yes, I will be using the Mail app on a Mac Pro Tower.

I already have an Apple account, (not using a @iCloud address) I thought I could just go ahead and create 2 iCloud email address with the one account I already have?

And Gail's solution has the added benefit of more free iCloud storage because of the second AppleID.

In the past, I have tried separate accounts for my wife and I. I know this is controversial, but we went back to having just one account and we like it that way.

I'm happy to buy more storage from Apple if I need it. We love the simplicity of just one account.
