I bought it as AT&T phone. And it works. Then, after 6 months of using it, checked IMEI - find out it is verizon locked. Just called verizon - not in the system. Also they said - verizon do not lock 4g phones. My wife right now abroad - sim locked. Paid for unlock service at&t and verizon. All of them said - phone unlocked.... Model number tells me - it is Apple Internal phone!

Verizon was correct. Verizon is prevented, by an agreement with the FCC, from selling locked iPhones. Phones with a model number beginning with "N" are service replacement units. They can be refurbished phones. I've never heard AT&T nor Verizon charging to unlock phones. Who did you pay money to?

I'm guessing that the phone was a warranty replacement for a locked AT&T phone. When Apple replaces a phone, they replace it with an identical, down to the carrier locked state, model.

Who did you buy it from? Where did you check the IMEI that told you it was Verizon locked?
