Errror message when starting Excel for Mac 2011

Every time I open Excel I get the following error message. After hitting OK, Excel opens as normal to a blank new sheet, but the error message returns the next time I open Excel. I am opening Excel from the dock icon, not trying to open any specific file.

(BetterHistogram_20070222_2050.xla is a file I opened some time ago but don't even have on my computer anymore)

Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix this? Thank you for your help.

iPad Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Make sure you have latest version of MS Office (14.6.5) as of today

Then do a reboot of your Mac and see if that fixes it.

Thank you for the quick reply! I updated my software and restarted the computer, but the same error came back. Any ideas?

When you are able to restart Word after that initial error have you tried clearing the Recent Menu?

Go to File

>>> Open Recent

>>>Clear Recent

Then restart your Word
