Safari keeps freezing with El capitan 10.11

Why is Safari freezing with the spinning wheel often now? I can barely start using Safari, and after clicking on anything more than once, I get the spinning wheel and have to close and reopen or completely shut down and restart.

When you see a beachball cursor, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.

Uninstall Sophos completely.

https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/120838.aspx

There are no viruses that can attack Mac.OS X. So, anti-virus programs are selling a cure for a disease that doesn't exist. And they are renowned for borking Mac systems.

Pocket Mac has also been known to be problematic, I'd uninstall that

Limewire downloads may contain malware hitchhiking in the application package and you'd never know it.

AFAIK, Limewire was discontinued years ago.

Finally the Seagate software package is useless on a Mac and can also cause problems. You should erase it.

Then run another EtreCkeck post the output.

Jun 26, 2016 9:43 AM in response to macjack

I uninstalled Sophos completely. I dragged Limewire to trash. Is that enough to get rid of it? I can't find Pocket Mac...never knew I had it. Where do I find it and uninstall it? Seagate is how I back up to my external hard drive. I have thousands of photos I really care about. Should I try EtreCheck again now? Or deal with pocketmac and what about my external backup to Seagate?

Jun 26, 2016 10:05 PM in response to bertaloha

Still can't find pocketmac. Don't know why it's on the report, and when I click support next to it on the report, it says can't be found. Plus it says "Blackberry" which I've never had one, but maybe it doesn't mean blackberry as in phone.

I have a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB portable hard drive.

It already seems like my Safari is working better! I think? We will see, and if so, thanks so much for your help. Guess I should run EtreCheck again?
