Q: Storage information shown in phone is less than that shown on summary page of iTunes.

Storage information shown in phone is less than that shown on summary page of iTunes.

Phone shows available storage is 4.8gb whereas the summary page in iTunes shows 6.67gb.

what is the reason for this different storage information?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.2

    Hello vikalp11,

     

    Thank you for being part of the Apple Community!

     

    My understanding is you are concerned about the difference in available space shown on the iPhone and what iTunes shows as available.  I know how valuable space is and the importance of managing it closely.

     

    Most likely the difference is being caused by cache files or temporary files that it will be deleted if the iPhone needs the space for any reason.

     

    If you are concerned, you can back up the iPhone, erase it, then restore it from the backup and this would remove all the cache and temp files that it no longer needs.  To do this, follow the instructions here:

    How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
