Q: iPhone 6s+ won't take any audio input through Earbuds.

My iPhone 6s + won't take input from any headset microphones: When I plug in the Apple Earbuds that came with the iPhone, I can't take calls or give Siri input. I can hear all sounds and music through the Earbuds, push volume up and down. But the microphone doesn't pic up anything no matter what I try.

I have tested out the Earbuds on my iPad Air and my iPhone 5, and the Earbuds work fine with them and take in sound from the microphone. This way, I know with certainty that the Earbuds are working perfectly.

I have also tried several other non-Apple headsets with ControlTalk features and microphones, from Sennheiser, but still the iPhone 6s + won't take any microphone input.

When the headset is unplugged, I can answer and take calls through the speaker without problems, and sound output is also perfect.

Is this a hardware or software problem?

And yes, I have tried to reset the iPhone 6s +. It did not help.

    Hello Misterar.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see that the mic isn't working when using your Apple EarPods, or any other headsets with your iPhone. You have performed excellent troubleshooting already. I'm happy to provide you with further direction to resolve this.

Let's follow this Apple knowledge base article:

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

More specifically the "Check for debris, damage, or loose connections"

    1. Check for debris in the headphone port on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
    2. Check your headphone cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage, like wear or breakage.
    3. Look for debris on the meshes in each earbud. To remove debris, gently brush all openings with a small, soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.
    4. Firmly plug your headphones back in. If your iOS device has a case, remove the case to get a firm connection.

    Best regards.
