I am trying to print a passport application. It prints one and a half page, then printer stops and I get printer error. Turn off and on your printer. Error code 0x97. I tried a second time and it happened again.

What OS X are you running, Lion?
Try resetting your printer settings:
Go to preferences > Printers & Scanners > right-click on your printer in the sidebar column > select to erase your Printer System Settings, tantrum again.
Re-installing the printer driver, even if it's the same version that you already have installed, seems to often help.
Same problem here with the printer. It is 1 year 3months old... out of warranty... tech support said it is a hardware issue and itʻs pretty much dead... Epson changed my printer for a new one without cost!! They just donʻt make them to last very long...
It worked!!! It happened after the latest update from Epson. Thanks for the advice...printing once again.
