Q: iPhone 5S - reset

I bought my iPhone 5S in February 2013 and have been using it since.

As I would like to give this iPhone to my Husband, as I now have purchased a new one, I followed the following steps:

1. Restored a version of his "Broken" iPhone onto my one, but all my information was still on this phone.

2. Tried to reset the iPhone, and start a clean "Restore"

3. The reset worked, now the iPhone will not activate, even if I enter my Apple ID

4. I am not able to activate it - It keeps telling me that Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this device

5. I have gone to my iCloud account and removed the device from there.

I am now attempting an iPhone recovery, My mac book is "Downloading software for the iPhone" (From iTunes)

(The download is taking a long time, and my iPhone keeps restarting)

Please help, is there anything else I can try?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Define "reset".  Exactly what did you do.

I connected iPhone to MacBook - from iTunes I:

    1. Performed a Restore Backup - using my husbands Back-up - this worked except, that all my data was still on the phone.
    2. Performed a Restore - To Factory from iTunes - this too worked, except I can no longer activate it.
    3. The reset I tried:
      1. Press the Home & Power button Simultaneously, till the Phone goes in reset mode.
      2. Attach to MacBook, connecting to iTunes, select Restore&UPdate;
      3. The update is downloaded and the iPhone was updated, still - I am unable to activate the iPhone
      4. It still comes up with:
        1. This iPhone is linked to an Apple ID. Enter the Apple ID and password that were used to set up this iPhone. (K●●●●●@gmail.com)
      5. I just noticed the K.....@gmail.com - that is not what my email looks like - at all?????mine would be H.....@gmail.com - how is this possible? or is that just an example??

    Perhaps you can help.

Give your old iPhone to your husband in pristine condition software-wise.  Clean it out and make it look like a brand new iPhone software-wise.  Here is how:

Hopefully "the Apple ID" means some new Apple ID created for your husband (and not your Apple ID).

UPDATE - You may have an additional problem.  It sounds like the SIM card in this iPhone is associated with your mobile telephone number.  Have you contacted your cellular carrier to change the telephone number to your husband's?  Have you placed your cellular carrier in the loop of this change you're making at all?  If not, the iPhone may well be locked to you cellular-carrier wise.

    Thank-you,

As I thought this may be the case, I used my sim card (The original one on this iPhone) and tried to use my Apple-Id to reactivate it .

(After having tried to use my Husbands Apple ID, - Yes he has a different one to me) - I shall read the link you sent me. and indicate weather it worked,

    again thanks.

    Hi again,

I had followed these links before, and have followed the instructions:

    1. Switched off "Find-my-iPhone"
    2. Removed it from my iCloud devices.

When I check the status on "Activation Lock" link of Apple, I am told the device is locked.

This device never belonged to anyone but me - how is it possible that it is still locked?

I have used my apple ID with correct password - to no avail.

Reset the iPhone.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Yes, done that, even held the buttons down till the "Reset" Screen appeared - Restored and Updated Phone - iTunes did download.

    Still ....  No go.

Have you been through all the steps in the article:

If you can't activate your iPhone - Apple Support

If so, please tell us exactly precisely what the "no-go" symptoms are: exactly what you just finished trying, and what you saw (or did not see).

Yes I followed those steps, from yesterday already...

Tried activating using iPhone - NOT attached to MacBook:

    • Switch on,
    • Select English;
    • Select Namibia (For Country)
    • Choose my WiFi Network (4Gb line)
    • Then the screen appears
      1. "It may take a few minutes to activate your phone"
    • Then a screen appears: - Activate iPhone

" This phone is linked to an Apple ID, Enter the Apple ID and password that were used to set up the iPhone. (K......@gmail.com)"

There is a field available for the apple id, and one for the password

    • I enter my Apple ID and Password (The same one I used to set up the iPhone)
    • I get the following message:

                  Incorrect Apple ID

" helga.....@gmail.com" cannot be used to unlock this phone

I get exactly the same results when trying to activate using iTunes on my MAC.

I am using the same iCloud account as attached to my Apple ID, I have also tried using all my email addresses attached to the apple ID.  helga.....@me.com,

helga...@icloud.com.  I have verified, they all share the same password.

That is the same account that I used to set it up with.
