Q: Lag Using Quicktime Screen Recording

Hi all,

Been trying to make a YouTube screencast, and am running  into intense lag while using Quicktime.

I've noticed on some tutorials that there is a "Quality" option in the Quicktime pulldown, but I don't seem to have that option. Has this option (to reduce quality to, I think 800 x 600) been removed from this Quicktime iteration?

The lag may be related to the age of my iMac; it's a late 2007 2.4Ghz Duo Core with 6G of RAM. When I go into Activity Monitor, the system's resources seem to be maxed out when recording the screen with Quicktime (while playing a game).

Does anyone know of a workaround? Or maybe recommend a third party app that could help with this?

Thanks!

The poor performance is almost certainly related to your hardware. El Capital really needs at least 8 GB of memory to work well.

You could search the Mac App Store for other, less-demanding screen recording utility, but I doubt it exists.

Thanks, Rysz. I suspected it — although I thought it would have more to do with the CPU than the amount of RAM (which I've maxed out).

If anybody else has suggestions, though, I'd be happy to hear them.

    Thanks!
