Q: Likes/comments no longer visible on my shared albums?

I logged out of my iCloud account, and after logging back in I noticed that all of the likes on comments on several of my shared photo albums have disappeared. I know that the likes and comments were not deleted, because they are still visible on my friends' devices. Every like and comment added after I logged back in are visible, but everything before that is gone. The pictures are all there and accounted for, just without the comments. I tried simply logging out and logging back in, but that just made all of the new comments disappear once again. There doesn't seem to be an obvious pattern as to which albums were affected. Some were ones that I created, and some were shared with me by others. Also, some albums shared with me were unaffected. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Upset Komodo,

Thanks for checking out the Apple Support Communities and for the details about what's happening with your Photos. I understand that after signing out and back in  to iCloud, the previous comment and likes are no longer visible to you. I can certainly understand wanting to make sure you're able to see the likes and comments on all of the photos you've shared.

I have an article that can help with situations like this. You'll want to click on the question 'If you can't see new comments in your shared album, or you see comments that you deleted' under the 'Comments and likes' section and follow the steps.

    1.  Check the System Status page for issues affecting Photos.
    2.  Check the Internet connection on all your devices by going to apple.com and iCloud.com. You need to connect to the Internet to make a comment.
    3.  See if the number of comments is the same on your iOS device and your Mac or PC.

If you have an active Internet connection, and a photo or video has a different number of comments on multiple devices, try the steps below.

    In iOS 7 or later:
    1.  Double-click the Home button to see your open apps. Find Photos, then swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
    2.  Tap Settings > iCloud > Photos.
    3.  Turn off iCloud Photo Sharing (or Photo Sharing in earlier versions of iOS).
    4.  Tap OK. The photos will automatically be added again when you turn this setting back on.
    5.  Press the Home button. Wait about a minute.
    6.  Tap Settings > iCloud > Photos.
    7.  Turn on iCloud Photo Sharing (or Photo Sharing in earlier versions of iOS).
    8.  Press the Home button.
    9.  Open Photos and tap the Shared tab.
    10. Tap the name of the shared album.
    11. Check the comments on the photo or video.

    Cheers!

Thanks, but this is the first thing I tried. Whenever I turn off icloud photo sharing (or log out of my icloud account), not only do my comments not come back, but any new comments that had been made ALSO disappear.

    Hey Upset Komodo,

Thanks for the updated info. Since you're still having trouble with the likes and comments on your photos, I would recommend to sign out of iCloud on any devices that you use. First, sign out on the iPhone, then sign out on all other devices. Once you've signed out on all of your devices, restart them, then log back in to iCloud on those devices and check the likes and comments on your photos.

If that doesn't do the trick, the next step I'd like to have you try is to reset your settings. Doing this won't erase any of your personal data (like pictures or contact) but it will reset some default device settings like your wallpaper, sounds, display brightness, date & time, Apple Pay, iMessage & FaceTime, restrictions, and previously used Wi-Fi networks. You'll want to have your Wi-Fi passwords handy so you can re-connect to those networks. To reset your settings go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

Once you reset your settings, be sure to check out the likes and comments again to see if there's any change.

    Cheers!
