fake apple support keeps popping up

Tabs are opening on my macbook that are showing Apple support but I didn't open them. They say I have a problem with my system. The tabs that are opening ask me to download more Mac products. I do know they aren't legit, I just want to get rid of these pages that keep opening. How do I get rid of this issue?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

I came to a site unknowingly downloaded something I thought was helpful, but is malware > Mac Keeper. Sounds tame, looked legit, promising all that it will do to help you. then one after another new window in my safari browser kept popping up on its own. One of these presented a rep there to chat with you (on the right hand column) and immediately. i fell for it. I typed in my phone# , received a call, and they even introduced screen sharing - very sophisticated - seemed professional.

THIS IS MALWARE, AS IS Mac Cleaner. Also, when some program asks you to download FLASH player or whatever, this is also Malware. Yesterday I was the gullible one who thought I was doing something good for my mac. Fortunately, I document everything by taking periodic screen shots, (Shift command 3) to keep track of what is going on on the desktop screen.

Malewarebytes is good, it is what Apple tech support had me download, the free version is adequate, and then this will search your computer for malware and isolate it and remove it.

Thing is, I had paid for Apple Care and used it considerably a lot, so I had already been quite familiar with even the http login address for the screen share app with apple.

red flag one - it was a different address

red flag two - these thickly accented Indian people in what sounded like a remarkably busy office - were rude to me and impatient - never, never would this happen with official apple employees

red flag three - the terminology the man used describing what he’d be doing - well he wasn’t using the right words

red flag four - the email address of the dude was not @apple, but some other obscure name - i said, what is this name? a 3rd party ma’am

red flag five - i wanted to look up this brand name, and the guy was invasively not allowing me to do it in his screen share mode, actually not letting me type into the google browser

yep it took that many red flags - and he was listing out all the different pay options - the $99.99 was a red flag too - apple would be a little more sophisticated in not playing that 99 game

I had already gotten out a cc to sink myself more into debt, and then intuitively, suddenly, said no, and abruptly ended the call and the screen share.

I immediately phoned 1 800 MY APPLE and within half a minute was talking to a young American dude in the States who informed me immediately that he could help, and that it would be FREE to get rid of malware.

Hi khusal,

It is better if you start your own thread.

There is adware installed on your Mac..

Run EtreCheck again.

Please start a new thread for your problem and post the EtreCheck report suggested below.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
