Q: live.co.uk email no longer working on imac mail

Hello all,

Since Monday i have been unable to access my live.co.uk email when using Mail on my iMac.

It keeps saying the password is incorrect, when i know it isn't. I have tested the email address by logging into the account via the Microsoft live.co.uk mailbox using Firefox which works fine, and i can also access all my email when using my iPhone.

Why has this all of a sudden happened? I have attempted to re-add the mailbox but to no avail.

The error message i receive is "Unable to receive mail" and upon clicking Connection doctor, when it shows the IMAP and POP account type

it states "Trying to log into this live.co.uk POP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct" and as i have said, they are (I've triple checked)

When I go into Preferences for this account, everything is present and correct, so i really do not know what the **** has happened?

Can anybody help

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.2

Delete the password from Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities). While there, Keychain Access menu First Aid.

    G'day JDC1983,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are having an issue with the Mail app rejecting your email's password. I use the Mail app everyday, so I know how important it is we get this password issue resolved.

You've done some great troubleshooting and isolation of this issue. I have a few other things that I'd like you to try.

First, please use the site below and make sure that your settings in the Mail app match the settings on this website:

    Mail Settings Lookup

Next, if the settings match up on that website, but you're still having an issue with the username and password, test by using the full email address in the User Name (i.e. user@domain.com) and just the first part of the email address in the User Name (i.e. user).

And finally, if you still have an issue, we recommend contacting the Email Service Provider (Microsoft) below to confirm the email settings. It's possible that they've updated their settings recently.

    Contact us (Microsoft)

    Best Regards.

Hi Kappy thanks for you're response.

What will happen if i do this? Will it mean the next time i log into mail, the mailbox will ask for my password to be stored again?

I noticed i had several pop3.live.com passwords saved, one of which was without the @ sign (so it read **myemailaddress2live.co.uk) **replaced my actual address with this one for exampled only** which i thought was odd?

Also, i have another error to add to this issue, when attempting to download all new mail, this message appeared:

the server returned the error : the connection to the server "pop3.live.com" on port 993 timed out.

    thanks

    James

You are welcome. The next time you try to access Mail, it should resave the password. I'd delete the odd one.
