Unable to change YouTube app video quality when using cellular data?

Basically when I'm on my data (AT&T) and decided to watch a video it plays automatically at 1080 but it burns my data fast. I tried changing through the video, those three dots it and says unavailable. I go into YouTube app settings and I don't have any options to change the quality just the upload quality. But I notice on Android users they have the options to change the quality. I search up on Google but I don't get the option in settings I don't even get the side menu. Yes my YouTube app up-to-date.

iOS is garbage I have no clue why I thought it was a good idea to switch from galaxy to iPhone I'll be making the switch back. This phone is too simple and iOS has far too many restrictions I hate it.

I too just realized that the iOS version of YouTube doesn't support a BASIC feature of probably almost EVERY streaming app. This is complete BS. Just because Google owns YouTube doesn't give you the right to screw your customers over with this crap(assuming it's an iOS issue, not YouTube). I just made the switch back to Apple after using Android for the past few years and that was probably one of the worst mistakes I've made in a while. Useless crap. I'll be making he switch back to Android as well. Thanks for nothing, Apple.

It's a YouTube issue, not an Apple issue. And it could also be a carrier issue. I got a notification from AT&T recently that they automatically downgrade the resolution of HD video for mobile devices to assist users in avoiding data overage. You can log in to the AT&T online account management and turn this feature off if you don't want it.

This is outrageous. Restricting something for no reason which has a serious impact on thousands of people across the world. I love apple but at this point you'd have to think that something's seriously wrong here.

How do you know it's for no reason? It may be for no reason that you understand, but presumably someone does, and they probably know more than you do. Very few decisions are made arbitrarily.

You also need to know that Apple did not write the Youtube app, Google did, and they are the ones who made the decision, not Apple. Do you love Google at this point?

So because I don't understand, I'm not allowed to call something out which is affecting customers. This is the logic of someone who's too weak to stand up for himself and quite frankly it's disgusting that a man who's obviously spent a few years on this earth is that submissive. I love apple and google but I'm not beyond calling out my friends.

Dude seriously this is simple. If someone does something that negatively affects others then you call them out. To do otherwise is to be complicit to the wrong. I'm sorry if your feeling got hurt there snowflake but in my world the golden rule is the standard and yes if my friends are affecting other people negatively then I call them out. I'm sorry you're too weak to do so. Keep replying and I'll keep destroying you. You don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah that ***** Apple do sometimes very very disappointing things what is the reason behind not giving manual quality change option that ridiculous if Apple will not try to give some basic things nd Good UI interflike Android then it will soon fall down like Nokia and Samsung will soon overcome

As has been pointed out many times in this thread, the Youtube app was written by Google, not by Apple. Apple cannot do anything about the way it works. They can try hitting Google with a clue bat, but I doubt that will change anything. Do you find it interesting that Google provides a different Youtube experience on Android, which they own? Probably just coincidence; it is unlikely that Google deliberately provides a different experience on a competing platform than it does on their own.

Oh I got it bt still Apple need to make more better than Android For some features and it should also improve it's iPhone design more better than Samsung because Samsung is changing with time and Apple not Samsung already started making edge displays far before and Apple still not bringing that in iphone Apple seriously try to change things on time not after otherwise Apple has to face situations like Nokia has faced...

I know. As much as I love Apple as a brand, it's iPhones are getting more and more restrictive.

I get it if they restrict free movie apps, and 3rd party apps, but restricting the option to select video quaility for YouTube videos? Seriously?

That just ****** me off even more about iOS.

I want to switch back to android but I have so much progress with iOS with games and purchases for example, that it's a hard decision to switch back to android. Because I'm going to have to start all over with the same games I had on my iOS device.

I don't. I have a 6 GB plan. I get speeds typically of 15 Mbps. From one tower recently I got 70 Mbps. But the "unlimited" plan from my carrier is limited in speed - to 3 Mbps. It's in the fine print; unlimited plans are throttled, typically to about 3 Mbps. At that speed you can't stream HD video at all, even if the app would allow it.

Regardless of your plan, Apple has nothing to do with the Youtube app. It is owned and distributed by Google. And Google will increase your speed - if you are willing to pay for premium service.
