Q: No Audio After Importing.

I have a cannon T3i, I have been troubleshooting this situation for some time now! After I import into FCP I lose audio, and I have to export it to quicktime, export audio, and then import it into FCP. The reason this is happening is, because I use a rodes external mic. When I record with my T3, and do not use a external mic it imports everything fine. How can I fix this? I need my good audio with my external mic, but tired of taking the extra step importing my audio. Something is going on with FCP! Because when I use Premiere Pro it imports everything fine with no issues! Someone help, so I can continue using FCP.

OK, you are not losing audio, there is something not being set as you expect it to be.

In the Import window, be sure NONE of the audio analysis options are set.

Once imported, select a clip, go to the Inspector, to the Audio section, and look at the Channel Configuration settings.

I bet your audio is there, just not being configured properly.

FCPX has no clue if you recorded from the built-in mic or a plugged in external mic.  The only difference is when you use an external mic, it only records to one channel.  You may have your other channel set to record from the internal mic, or not to record at all.  Some of those audio analysis settings in the Import window can change the audio channel configuration, and you may not be aware of it.
