    Hello M E Subocz,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. I see that you've been having issues adding songs and turning off Genius. I know how important it is to be able to add music to iTunes. I am happy to help.

Since you're being prompted to turn off Genius so you can add music, please use the following information to resolve both issues:

    Turn Genius on or off

If iCloud Music Library is turned on, you can’t turn Genius off.

Choose File > Library > Turn On Genius (or Turn Off Genius).

Turning off Genius turns off Genius playlists, Genius Shuffle, and Genius Mixes.

iTunes 12 for Mac: Use Genius Shuffle, Genius playlists, or Genius Mixes

    Have an amazing day!

It would be helpful if this was made a bit clearer in the error message displayed by itunes. or at least show the Turn Off Genius in the menu but then give message when you try to call it that you also need to go to preferences and turn off icloud before u can turn genius off and on. simple really

I have the same problem.  Jovona.P (Apple Community Specialist) gives instructions but didn't notice in the original message that there is no option to turn off/on Genius if you follow the File>Library path....the advice given by Jovona.P isn't available on iTunes 12.4.3.1

Please offer another piece of advice or rectify the lack of option.

You cannot edit the Genius settings if it is updating, which it may try to do automatically after launching iTunes. Either wait or cancel the update using the activity widget near the top right of the iTunes window..

You cannot edit the Genius settings if iCloud Music Library is active, i.e. you use Apple Music and/or iTunes Match and are signed into the cloud library. First disable iCloud Music Library from Edit (Win) / iTunes (Mac) > Preferences > General, then use File > Library > Turn Off Genius.

I have iMac (2007) running latest software version and latest iTunes version. I am missing songs because I cannot connect to iCloud music and it will not run genius. It keeps giving me an error.  Genius cannot be updated at this time.  Error 4010.
