Q: What ePub reader to use while iBooks having issues?

I have the same problem as many other readers, iBooks does not sync between devices and does not download books from iClouds. I have 40 GB of books I can only read on my iPad Air 2, not on my 2 iPhones. And ii does not seem like this is something Apple is working on to solve at the moment. So I have to have another ePub reader while waiting for iBooks to be repaired.

So what I want is an ePub reader that sync between devices. Any suggestions? Pros? Cons?

Greatful for help!

iPhone 5, iOS 9.3.2, null

If your books have been purchased from Apple's iBookstore, normally they can only be read by the iBooks app because of DRM.

The 40 GB I can not download to iBooks are ebooks that I did not buy from Apple. All my ebooks bought from Apple I can download and sync without problem. What I and so many others have difficulties with are ebooks that are not bought from Apple. These ebooks are not able to download from iClouds and sync between devices. Sorry for not writing that in my original question. Anyway that is why I need another ePub reader.

Do a search on the app store for "ePub". Many book reader apps are tied to a specific service, but there are some that will store files from any non DRM source or work in conjunction with a cloud service such as drop box. Read the descriptions carefully.

I have already searched, read and downloaded and I still am not satisfied. I was hoping someone here could give me some first hand experience about why they prefer  a specific ePub reader.

I am hoping to find a reader that have their own drive/cloud like Kindle and iBooks - not using Dropbox etc.

Rather than have people suggest a bunch of readers you have already rejected, why don't you tell us the names of those you have tried.

    • Read Me - you have to pay to use their drive and you can not open a book by tapping it. You have to tap a specific button.
    • NeoSoar - you add books through Dropbox.
    • Blue fire Reader - you add books through Dropbox.
    • EPub Reader - you add books through Dropbox
    • Marvin - you add books through Dropbox.

I am hoping to find a reader that have their own drive/cloud like Kindle and iBooks to sync with - not using Dropbox and not paying to use their drive/cloud.

The Kindle reader doesn't (unless it is a recent addition) access independent cloud services, but if I remember correctly you can upload documents to your Amazon account an access them through it. Not sure what the file type restriction is.

KIndle/Amazon is connected the same way as iBooks/iClouds. You log in to the reader and the account with the same username/password. I am looking for a ePub reader with that kind of connection that can sync between devices.

The app can cost but I am not keen on paying a fee to use the drive/cloud.  And I am also not interested in using a drive/cloud from another source.

Are there any ePUB readers with their own free drive/cloud service?

Based on your description - at least as much of it as I can decipher - probably not.

Do you have a problem using Kindle? As I recall, it supports ePub. It's fairly easy to get your documents into your account, though I don't remember the exact steps. The Amazon help pages are pretty decent.

Are there any ePUB readers with their own free drive/cloud service?

As that type of service can quickly become expensive for the provider, I don't know what the incentive would be to offer it if you weren't (potentially) making them money in some other way.

iBooks works just fine for me. Have you done any troubleshooting at all, or are you just waiting for it to magically get better?

I think .epub has to be converted to .mobi for it to be readable on the kindle app.

    Ah. Perhaps.

Amazon has a nifty little app for Macs (and probably for windows) that you can drag and drop files on. It converts them to the appropriate format and uploads them to my account. I don't know if it works for ePub or not, though.

KIndle does not support.epub - just mobi and.pdf books. I like Kindle but I have 40 GB in non-Apple books that iCloud refuses to download to my 2 iPhones.
