Q: What ePub reader to use while iBooks having issues?

I have the same problem as many other readers, iBooks does not sync between devices and does not download books from iClouds. I have 40 GB of books I can only read on my iPad Air 2, not on my 2 iPhones. And ii does not seem like this is something Apple is working on to solve at the moment. So I have to have another ePub reader while waiting for iBooks to be repaired.

So what I want is an ePub reader that sync between devices. Any suggestions? Pros? Cons?

Greatful for help!

iPhone 5, iOS 9.3.2, null

There are sites out there that will convert files. I'm sure you can find one that converts ePub to Mobi.

I think this may be the one I've used:

    http://www.online-convert.com/

I can't tell right now because my work computer has it blocked.

I am glad that it works fine for you, but a lot  of people on this forum and elsewhere have the same problem: non-Apple books do not download from iClouds. It is an occurring question here on the forum about what to do. No one has found a solution. I have talked to the support several times and a technical senior has been looking into this for several weeks with no solution. Someone here has tried the beta version of the coming version of iOS but the problem persists. Many of us (me inclouding) also have problems with the app crashing after a minute or two.

I have the these problems on my two iphones but not on my iPad Air 2.

I know how to convert but I have 40 GB to convert. Not my cup of tea.

Kindle does not accept ePub, so I am pretty sure that even though I manage to drag the files I can not read them.

Oh, how I wish iBooks would work again but it has been defect for month and no solution is on the way...

If you're using a Mac, just import the books to iBooks on the Mac and sync them to the phones from there using iTunes. Once you do so, reading positions, etc. should be synced automagically between devices.

I only have my books in iClouds and on my iPad,  so to get them to be able to transfer them to another reader or to convert them I have to search the InterneT and download them again. I feel so sad about this because next week I am going for a 5 weeks bus tour in Africa and I can only use my energy consuming iPad to read on. What if iBooks crashes on that.?!

I really would love to be able to read on my 2 iPhones instead, during the llong bus trip. That does not seem possible and I really do not have time to download all books again and convert them or put them in an reader I do not like...

i Had this dream of reading a lot on my trip but that does not seem possible....

you should try out Gerty. it is from the same guys that do marvin.

it has different choices how you can get the books on there, besides dropbox.

you can also use your icloud and can get the books from there. but i think you have to first let the data be allowed to go there via itunes where you have to enable it. i personally haven't tried this kind of snyching out, but i use gerty since ibooks ****** up and think it's great. so your chances are high that it will work. they have a website where they explain how to do things.

Thank you for trying to help me.

I do not really understand how to use iTunes to get non-Apple ebooks from iClouds. Nothing in the tutorial for Gerty shows that. This is all it says about using iTunes:

    "

    • Using iTunes: This is the fastest way to add many books to Gerty. Just drag multiple EPUB books to Gerty using iTunes and Gerty will add them when starting up or when refreshing your library. Apple have an easy tutorial on iTunes drag and drop here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094 "

It does not say, as I can see it, that iClouds is used, but English is not my first language so maybe I misunderstood something. How do I use iClouds through iTunes? How do I enable it? Could not find a word about it on Gertys's home page. I thought iTunes and iClouds were not connected in any way. But it would be a dream if I could download non-Apple ebooks on from iClouds to another ePub reader on my iPhones. Right know I can only use my iPad Air 2 to read on.

I have no books on my pc - only in iClouds. I get error -54 trying to sync my iPad Air or my 2 iPhones to iTunes, so I have no books on iTunes either  But I think that  only Apple ebooks show up on iTunes. The only way for non-Apple ebooks to show up in iTunes is if I have added non-Apple books with my PC to iTunes. Well at least I think that is how things work with iTunes. As I do not have any books on my pc that is not possible.

Anyone who knows if I can add iBooks to Gerty from iClouds?

Forgot to tell that I tapped on the iCloud Drive option in Gerty but no books showed up. How can I see the books in ICloud Drive in Gerty?

This is exactly the problem I am having at this time. All my eBooks are non-DRM and purchased from sources other than the iBooks Store. I added some new ePubs to iBooks for Mac and they appeared to sync to iCloud. However they would not show up on my iPad. So after disabling/enabling iCloud sync on the iPad now no eBooks will show up and all iBooks does now is crash. I can't even delete the app and reinstall it. I can't even sync my eBooks via iTunes because now... wait for it... all my eBooks are stored in the cloud and they don't show up in iTunes either! I am very irritated with this iCloud sync feature.
