Q: Iphone 6S Transferring a Tone

Hi All,

I have a ring tone on my old iPhone 5 - it's not a bought one - it's one I made from a clip of an Mp3.  It's been working fine on my iPhone 5 and sits in the "Tones" section when I connect to ITunes.

I've bought an iPhone 6S and "restored from a back up" so it's now my phone - I've swapped the sim card etc.   But the tone is not there. When both are connected (hard wire connections) to the Mac I can see the two directories (Tones) - in the old phone the tone is there - in the new phone it's not.  How do I move it /copy it from the old iPhone 5 to the iPhone 6?  I can't seem to drag and drop....

Thanks in advance...

Andy

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you want to transfer a custom ringtone from your older iPhone 5 to your new iPhone 6s. I know that it's nice to be able to customize your experience with your iPhone, so I'm happy to provide you with some direction for this.

When transferring content from an iOS device to iTunes, it will only transfer content that is purchased from the iTunes Store with the same Apple ID. This helps prevent the unauthorized transfer of protected content. This means that if you've created this custom ringtone directly on your iPhone, then you'll need to do the same on the new iPhone to get that ringtone back.

One alternative to this, would be to create the ringtone on your computer, and then sync it to any future devices using the steps here:

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB

I hope this helps clarify things, cheers!
