Startup issues with Macbook 12"

When logging in after starting up my 12" Macbook, my trackpad doesn't let me click on the password box to type in the password. This has happened multiple times and it forces me to turn off fire vault to get into my laptop. How do I fix this?

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Hi there Caramellance,

It sounds like you are unable to click in the text field when you turn on your computer for some reason. I would start by booting to safe mode. This will clear some system level caches and perform a disk check and repair if needed.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

  1. Start or restart your Mac.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

That should stop this from happening again. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, all the best!
