Air Drop problem

I just bought a Mac Book Pro running OS X El Capitan. I am trying to receive an air drop from my husbands phone. His phone cannot see my mac book as a possibility to connect with via air drop. He can however see my phone. It seems the problem is a setting on my mac book. Bluetooth is turned on. Wifi is also turned on. I'm not sure what I need to do to make this work.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Try opening Finder, selecting Go (in the menu bar), and then selecting AirDrop to make sure that your device is discoverable by others.

The compatibility for AirDrop on MacBook Pro devices is as follows:

MacBook Pro (Late 2008) or later, excluding the MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2008)
